2 new workshops, Aug 19 and Aug 25.
If you learn how to use a scythe correctly, it is an effective mowing tool that is pleasurable to use. You can use a scythe to mow your lawn, trim the edges of gardens and fields, mow around fruit trees and bushes, clean under electric fence lines, cut hay, reap grain, and even mow pathways in vegetable crop fields.
Shelby will demonstrate, instruct and give an introduction to various styles of scythe, and a discussion of how to choose the best style of blade and snath for your purposes. Shelby will have blades and other high-quality hand tools available for purchase. We will look at different snath designs, both purchased and home-made, and see how the snath affects how the tool can be used.
There will also be discussion and demonstration of the very important sharpening processes, honing and peening.
Then there will be a mowing demonstration, followed by hands on instruction.
Workshop Fee: $21, reimbursed if a tool is purchased
Both workshops are filled, but if you’d like to be on the wait list for the August workshops, please reply to Nancy.
