A group of students from UMass came to Katywil and to the Colrain Seed Farm for a fun day of planting wheat seeds, visiting Katywil, and baking pizzas in the wood fired earthen oven. Karen Sokolow, a senior and member of Hillel at UMass, founded a group called Sustainable Jews, to focus on ecological issues in the Jewish community on campus. She learned about Katywil at the summer NOFA conference and wants to explore sustainable lifestyles, so Katywil was their first field trip! Since Karen is graduating soon, she reached out to freshmen, so the group will continue, always thinking of sustainability! Eli, at Colrain Seed Farm gave them organic heritage wheat seeds to take back and plant on campus. It was a great day!
