Co-owning a car has been the perfect solution for Marcie, Brian, Jackie, and Matt. Read more…
When Matt’s sister offered to give him her old station wagon, Matt was hesitant. The car had over 180,000 miles and needed some work. Also, Matt and his partner Jackie already had a functioning car. Matt and Jackie’s one car served their needs, but at 20 years old, it was starting to give them some problems. On the other hand, Matt and Jackie did not particularly want the hassle and expense of owning a second car. Matt asked his friend Brian (not pictured), “Would you take it?” Brian and his wife Marcie were in a similar situation.
Recognizing that the two couples could reap all the benefits of an extra car without their household bearing all the costs, Brian suggested that the two couplse share the car. Matt and Jackie and Brian’s partner Marcie were all enthusiastic about sharing the car.
The next step to car co-ownership was to work out a formal sharing arrangement. Bill from Katywil suggested that defining the mission of the joint venture would help guide them towards happy and productive co-ownership.
Now that Matt, Jackie, Brian, and Marcie co-own Donald the Car, it is working well and has been the perfect solution.
