On a cold Friday winter evening, several of us huddled enthusiastically in the kitchen. What was all the buzz about? Inspired by the stories brought back by our friend Laura from her recent trip back to her home town in Italy, we gathered for an evening of our own Italian culinary adventure.
Laura introduced the savory delight of spatzle to us and demonstrated the device that makes these tiny dumplings. Haynes roasted sausages from our own pigs with fennel and orange, and Judy roasted brussels sprouts with garlic and olive oil and sprinkles with parmesan cheese.
The meal was finished off by Lynn’s marvelous chocolate cake, perhaps not exclusive to Italian cuisine but there was not a single complaint as her delectable dessert was devoured. With a roaring fire in the fireplace, the warmth of candlelight adorning the dining table, no shortage of fun stories and tales to share and a bottle of Prosecco to accompany the feast and spread the cheer, this seemed to be the perfect way to relax and wind down after the long week.
