In this weekend workshop we will learn the square-rule method of layout and assembly of a traditional timber-frame structure, and build a shelter for the wood-fired oven. Friday night will be an introduction, discussion and presentation about the craft of timber framing and our project. Saturday and Sunday we will challenge ourselves to cut and raise a small shelter for the oven. Students will practice the important skill of visualization as we layout the building, obtain useful insight into how to cut sound and solid wood joinery as well as a strong sense of the tools involved and how to care for them. This course is a basic introduction and perfect for anyone interested in cutting their own backyard frame, young people making a career decision, or anyone curious about timber-framing.
Meals (including wood-fired pizza!) and space for camping provided, you will be given a short list of inexpensive and necessary tools to bring.
